In 6 weeks, working with a team of busy volunteers, Roxy organized an event from securing the venue, setting the date and getting speakers, catering, decorations, marketing and such for a first time statewide event. Planning events is something Roxy has done for years and years starting in college with the school’s annual Bridal Fair. Roxy was responsible for securing vendors, setting up the entire booth and display area and running that portion of the event in addition to workshop leaders, seminar speakers and keynote speakers.
Career-wise, Roxy subsequently created community business partnerships and was responsible for all Public Service Campaigns for two radio stations. Roxy ran and/or was part of the teams putting together events like concerts, Home and Garden Shows, sporting events like Professional Bull Riders Budweiser event, the Dinosaur Round-up Rodeo, 1A and 2A high school basketball playoff game broadcasts, Taste of Home events and campaigns to honor graduates, and for good causes like teens and alcohol, volunteering in the community and wearing seatbelts. The ‘Buckle up Basin’ seatbelt campaign, Roxy created, has been running in rural Utah for almost 15 years now!
In Tucson AZ, Roxy was responsible for all non-traditional revenue, (NTR) for four radio stations, handling events like the annual Diaper Drive which is the only one of its kind, quarterly Career Fairs, Le Tour de Tucson, the Baby Fair, concerts, several web initiatives including one for Brides and one for home improvement. This was cutting-edge innovation for radio at the time as the stations generated tremendous revenue without selling airtime. Roxy was instrumental in the creation, strategy, and implementation of these initiatives.
Roxy participated in many, many events through the years for non-profits and personal events like reunions and weddings. Here are a few highlights. A fun seasonal project Roxy played an integral role in was the beautification of Vernal UT, which city won ‘Most Beautiful City in Bloom’ the last year Roxy participated. Roxy helped with multitudes of fundraising projects, awards ceremonies, fairs, events, concerts and so on.
There are two events Roxy is rather proud of and would like to mention because they had never been done in the world. Although Roxy was asked to chair this event, Roxy recommended Pete Codella, the president of the newly formed Social Media Club of Salt Lake City chair the event and Roxy provided support as a co-chair of the first annual UT Social Media Awards hosted by the Social Media Club of Salt Lake City. With that arrangement, it would be a natural progression for me to chair the following year with assistance from someone who had been on the committee the previous year and so on. This strategy provides a cohesive forward movement. The event was wildly successful with very few snafus which is always the goal even with first-time events.
Additionally, Roxy was asked to join the planning team for the first Global Entrepreneur event in Salt Lake City, UT, by the founder of Marketstar, Alan Hall. Alan was a dream to work with and understood the pressure we were under because when Roxy came on board, the event was 6 weeks out with no date, time or venue. Roxy was delighted to step in and get that event scheduled and promoted quickly as it was another wonderfully successful event with one CEO speaker cutting his China business trip short to participate!
“Hello Roxy, I am writing today to thank you for helping with a very successful Global Entrepreneurship Week conference held a few weeks ago at the South Town Expo. Your leadership, hard work and excellent implementation created a superb first annual event. I have heard from many attendees that they enjoyed this year’s event and look forward to attending next year. Please know how grateful I am for your distinguished service to this special project. Your time, talent and positive “get it done” attitude will never be forgotten. All my best to you.
Cheers, Alan (Hall)”, founder of Marketstar
“I worked with Roxy in the development and organization of the 2009 Utah Social Media Awards. I was chair and she was co-chair. Roxy was a wonderful, creative and energetic force. She organized the efforts of our volunteer team, took care of event logistics and helped emcee a very successful first-of-its-kind event. I would work together with Roxy again in a heartbeat.”
